Creature fins was started in 2016 when mermaid enthusiast Katie decided that unless she wanted to wait over two years to receive the tail of her dreams, matters would have to be taken into her own hands by making her own. As a full time concept artist for Playstation, it was becoming very necessary to have a creative outlet outside of work that wasn’t just more digital art, thus began the deep dive into this soon-to-be full time hobby of tail making. The goal of starting Creature Fins was to create something never seen on the market that no one could ever mistake for another maker’s work. This new creative outlet was an exciting way to explore her fascination with monsters and push the boundaries of what could be designed for a mermaid, given the loose guidelines of the species. The abyss is the limit.

My name is Kierstin LaPatka, and I am the entity behind 'Smogteeth', a small mask studio located in Sin City, Las Vegas, Nevada. I am known for my detailed work for both concept art and sculpture, and have been seen on SyFy's "FaceOff" Season 12 as a finalist. I love making monsters, and creatures that lurk in the shadows, and scaring folks is a delight! I have done seminars, and small demonstrations online for airbrushing, and sculpting. My last opportunity was to teach a short SFX class in Guangzhou, China where I helped to guide my students from start to finish on their very own SFX makeups. From concept, to life cast, to sculpting, molding, painting, and finishing with application, I found I learn the most when I am teaching.
The above image is the concept sketch for this makeup class. This silicone prosthetic is reusable and customizable! Kierstin is in the process of live sculpting the prosthetic on her Twitch account!

Silicone Repair 101
Whether you’re brand new to the merfolks' water, or you’re already an ancient ocean deity, this class offers insight for anyone who owns something made of silicone. From anatomy of your tail/accessories to simple DIY repairing scrapes and tears, Crowcaw FX will teach you how to properly implement common household materials with silicone techniques that will keep our tails looking brand new!
About Crowcaw Fx
When Jonathon was a small child, his parents had told him he could be be anything he wanted; he decided to be a mermaid. He practiced singing, making tails from duct taped bath towels, and sunbathing on rocks. He learned about the sea and mermaids themselves. But one day his parents broke the sad news... He physically could never be a mermaid. Time moved on. He grew disillusioned until one day he discovered a special Fx makeup kit at a school book fair, and his life long affair with Fx and making monsters began! Fx Makeup gave him the power to breathe life into any of his brightest dreams...or darkest nightmares.
Almost 20 years later, and after years of working in haunted houses and movies, and teaching classes across the country.... he had a close friend ask if he could make a mermaid tail... and the rest is history. He now lives in San Jose and creates merfolk tails full time, and specializes in silicone painting and silicone repair.

Mermaiding and Rollerskating both feel like physical and cosmic connections to the "border dwellers". One can perform either one as an individual or a a group. She performed in two Kid Swim's at 2019's CaMerCon and cannot wait to get her fins wet with other mers! Her favorite swimming mer-trick to do is a backwards somersault! Her favorite part of Mermaiding with kids is teaching them about ocean conservation when they (inevitably) want to touch her shells and ask if they're real. Once a 6 year old told her with ardent passion: "I NEVER throw away Plastic!"
The Mermaid Atlantis is a proud American born Peruvian, having learned English in school in California and spending most of her summers with her family in Lima, Peru. This Autistic and bilingual fish looks forward to sharing her bi-cultural perspective with her fellow POC in the Representation panel for 2021.
Atlantis began her work with humans in 2012. Starting out with tiny humans celebrating birthday parties, then land fashion shows, and growing into underwater fashion shows at the world famous Dive Bar. She lent a fin to her sea sister Rachel Smith in the creation of “Mermaid Weekend” in Sacramento. This evolved into many exciting projects Atlantis assisted in producing, including Merfest in North Carolina, and the Mystical Mermaid Retreat in Harbin Hot Springs.
Atlantis loves to borrow Land Legs to visit humans, fairies, and mystical friends of all sorts. She has been lucky enough to be invited to perform for tiny humans across the world! All the way down to South American, and then all the way up to Canada. One of her very favorite things to do is to make people laugh.
Currently, she is working on a bilingual children’s comedy show that is also accessible to the hearing impaired.

We will begin this session with mindful movement to ground you in your body, heart and tail, leading into Robin's teachings and a mindfulness meditation practice.
