The California Mermaid Convention was created to celebrate unity, friendship, diversity and community. We have a zero tolerance policy against any harassment - physical or verbal - of any attendee, participant, patron or bystander to our events. The California Mermaid Convention will have trained security personnel at each of our events; if you violate any of our rules of conduct, you will be escorted off site without warning. We will also not hesitate to reach out to the local police department at any time, without a warning.
Our events are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. Overly sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any of our venues, including talks, workshops, parties, Instagram, Facebook and other online media. Event participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the event organizers.
The California Mermaid Convention reserves the right to remove any attendee from the event grounds for any reason deemed unsafe or harmful to others or for repeated failure to follow the rules. The California Mermaid Convention reserves the right to modify, change or cancel any bookings without pay or compensation including but not limited to entertainers, lecture leaders, panelists, volunteers, workshop coaches and photographers at our discretion. The California Mermaid Convention reserves the right to refund ticket sales and bar anyone from out events who do not meet with our values and morals as outlined in this Code of Conduct.
Any indecent exposure (public exposure of genitalia, buttocks or (female) breasts) is not permitted. When choosing and/or creating your costume, please keep in mind the constraints of local laws and customs concerning public decency. Sturdy and fitted costumes are required, should you choose to cosplay; you should not be falling out of your costume, and it should not be falling apart around you and littering our environment. Also, remember to have proper support such as bras and/or athletic cups, especially if you plan to be physically active, i.e., dancing, swimming or running. If you have a bulky or large costume, please be aware of your surroundings. Try not to hit other attendees, block walkways or access, or cause a disruption. You are responsible for your own costume and should respect those around you.
By purchasing a ticket and attending any and all of, our events, you are agreeing to be photographed by our official photographers, and other members of the press. Photos and images may be used on all social media platforms, and on advertising and news platforms. It is advised to ask participants permission before photographing them. Any photographs or videos of attendees taken by The California Mermaid Convention staff in an official capacity may be used or published without further consent of the attendees being recorded. If you have a special case, and need to keep your identity offline, please contact event staff prior to your attendance of the events.
Except in case of event cancelation, we are unable to refund tickets for events.
By purchasing a ticket, you are agreeing that The California Mermaid Convention, its personnel, and its affiliates are not responsible for any damage, theft, injury, or loss. Attendees of the events are responsible for their own actions and belongings as well as for any resulting repercussions. Staff and security is on hand to assist in any situation. However, any civil or medical emergencies that may occur must be handled directly by the appropriate authorities. The California Mermaid Convention has a zero tolerance policy on misconduct of any kind; misconduct is judged at the discernment of The California Mermaid Convention Staff.
Unlawful resale of tickets (or attempted resale) is grounds for seizure and cancellation without compensation. A ticket shall not be used for advertising, promotions, contests or sweepstakes, unless formal written authorization is given by the Event Promoter, provided that even if such consent is obtained, any use of Event Promoter's trademarks and other intellectual property is subject to the Event Promoter’s consent. All purchases are non-refundable, non-transferable and not able to be exchanged.
We are keeping up to date on CDC recommendations for large gatherings in regards to the COVID 19 pandemic. At this time, we are not requiring tests or vaccinations for attendance to our activities. We suggest that guests remain masked during indoor activities. Any person or persons appearing to be ill or contagious will be asked to leave our event, and security personal will escort them offsite. Please stay home if you are feeling unwell in any way. We wish to keep our guests and community as safe as possible.
None of our digital events may be recorded or live-streamed without written prior consent.
The California Mermaid Convention stands with artists and makers; we will not be allowing any sales of AI artwork at any of our events. Vendors who sell AI art will not be accepted into our events.
We exercise the right to refuse tickets or entry to any person who does no abide by our code of conduct, or the moral and ethical agreements of the team behind The California Mermaid Convention. We exercise the right to remove or restrict access to anyone joining an event, online or in person, without warning.
