Mermaid 101

The Perfect Course for Beginner Mermaids!

Join Virginia Hankins of Sheroes Entertainment for a two-day workshop that is 'tail'-or made for mermaids just starting out.

Day one of your workshop experience will start with the very basics of swimming in a tail. From tail selection to fit, care, and how to safely move while wearing it on deck. Your journey will then move to the water where you'll learn fundamental self-rescue drills and how to best use your tail for propulsion and movement with both individual and group work activities.

As your confidence grows, you'll go through some of the same training provided to the women of Germany's Next Top Model on set, giving you time to watch, learn, and practice set etiquette, poses, movements, and insider tricks.

During day two of the workshop, Virginia will  help you apply your newly acquired skills in front of camera, during a one on one photoshoot with Scot Benton!

Teen Mermaid Workshop

A Mermaid Workshop Focused on Building Confidence and Skills, with our Teen Mermaids in Mind!

Mermaid Hyli (Amanda Kaiser)  leads our Teen Mermaids on an adventure! Join her for a two day workshop filled with imagination, practical skills and confidence building. In the mermaid community, activities are often focused on children or adults, and teen mermaids are left in the lurch. The California Mermaid Convention wanted to offer something for this oft-overlooked demographic, and we found the 'mer'-fect Workshop Coach to lead the class!

Hyli will be addressing the importance of safety when shooting as a mermaid above or below the water. She will help each mermaid/merman define what it means to be a professional merperson and help them develop realistic goals to achieve through building their mersona. Once in the water, Hyli will address movement, facial expressions, and posing that fits the individual in preparation for the underwater photoshoot the following day. In closing, there will be a short Q&A for a chance to ask Hyli anything about her career or advice in the mermaid industry, especially pertaining to growing as a young professional.

She has over 6 years of experience in modeling, birthday parties, aquarium work, mermaid tank performing, and creating with silicone. She opened her mermaid costuming business Siren Allure and continues to grow as an artist through the years. She then began her traveling tank show company, The Real Mermaids which performed at many festivals and events, teaching children and adults the importance of conservation through the magic of mermaids.

She works along side of her husband, J.Berendt Photography, to photograph mermaids around the world. They partner as a team to teach important safety tips, posing, and guidelines for mermaids and mermen of all ages. Hyli looks forward to meeting everyone and getting the opportunity to teach what she has learned through her experiences.
