Since its inception, the California Mermaid Convention has aimed to embody the true spirit of the mermaid; that of a guardian, caretaker and fierce defender of the waters of our precious planet. for over a decade, the California Mermaid convention has made caring for our local waterways an important part of our ethics and events. We aim to actively make an impact on our local waterways, and provide a pathway for our event attendees to get involved in conservation.
-Continue our ongoing partnership with The American River Parkway Foundation by organizing and participating in local cleanups. In addition, we would like to make a year-end donation to ARPF to assist in ongoing river conservation efforts
-Expand our beach cleanups across the state to Anaheim, the Sierra Nevada and San Francisco
-Work with vendors who have an eye toward their eco-impact with their wares. Reusable, recycled and thrifted items are the new rage!
-Provide our attendees with programing that informs and educates on topics that pertain to our waterways - both saltwater and freshwater, and how we can become active agents in conservation aspirations
-Increase our efforts in transforming from a low-waste event to a zero-waste event; for example, encouraging guests to bring their own reusable drinking vessels, eating utensils and providing compostable serving plates.
Remember, a mer-maid is a servant of the sea! We are proud to be completing these ongoing efforts and encrouage you to join us!
Want to get involved but not sure where to start? The best way is to join one of our River Clean Ups - thus far we have pulled over 5,000 lbs of trash out of the American River, and plan to get even more!
If you have questions, comments, or ideas for more water conservation efforts, we want to hear from you! Email us at hello@californiamermaidcon.com
